The Village Place™©

A Community For Sustainable Living

The Village Place is a planned small farm community located in Northwest Louisiana.  The first phase will be developed on 20 acres of land that will contain twelve moderate size homes.  Each home will contain 2000 square feet or less exclusive of a small electric car garage.  Also planned for the first phase is a 3000 square foot commons building/lodge, a 350 seat outdoor amphitheater, a non denominational chapel and meditation center, fruit and nut orchards, vegetable crop land, walking and riding paths, a swimming pool/pond, an irrigation/fishing pond with a pier along with two other irrigation ponds all connected by a meandering creek that traverses the grounds.  The community will also have its own water supply and tower, an array of solar panels as well as a wind turbine for the generation of electrical energy.

Each home will be built, landscaped and strategically located to take advantage of minimal thermal loss in the winter and achieve maximum cooling from the natural elements, water and landscaping in the summer.  Each home will also be designed with a roof mounted thin film solar panel for generating electricity and 100 square feet of yard space for a garden.

The commons lodge will be a two-story, plus a basement, building of approximately 3000 square feet that contains a lounge, meeting rooms, recreation room, workout gym, a dinning hall, a fully equipped commercial kitchen and a root seller for the storage of the community's winter stock of foods, canned goods and to serve as an emergency storm shelter.

The outdoor amphitheater and adjacent village green will serve as a stage for casual meetings and a gathering place for community celebrations, family reunions, stage plays, shows and other outdoor events.

The chapel, nestled behind the pecan and walnut orchard in a quiet part of the community, will serve as a wellspring for refreshing and rejuvenating mind, body and spirit.  It is initially planned to seat 100 to 150 participants.

Solar-battery powered electric cars will be the only vehicles permitted on the community grounds by residents.  All resident’s fossil fuel vehicles will be housed in parking garages at the entrances to the community.  Each home will come furnished with an electric vehicle and an accompanying parking garage at the home as well as a parking space in with the fossil fuel vehicle garaged at the entrance to the community.

A minimum of 4 acres of the initial 20 will be dedicated to the production of organic agricultural crops – fruits, nuts, vegetables, flowers, culinary and medicinal herbs.  These crops will primarily be sold in the community fruit stand and country store located on the main road about 100 yards from the entrance to the community grounds.  Ten percent of all agricultural food production will be donated to local food banks and those in need.
